Mercy, Not Sacrifice on Sabbath (1)
Jesus’ disciples were accused of violating the Sabbath in the grain field. Speaking to some of the same people who were in Matthew’s house (Matthew 9), Jesus returns to Hosea’s message to defend His disciples, rebuke their accusers, and to aid us in understanding God’s mercy. This text has sometimes been abused, as though Jesus justified sins committed from a motive of mercy. Is that Jesus’ message here?
